Under BS 5839-1 (commercial) and BS 5839-6 (domestic and HMO), fire alarm systems require routine testing — quarterly user checks, six-monthly engineer testing for commercial, annual full certification. We deliver compliant testing from £69.99 with logbook completion and same-day certificate. For Grade D domestic and HMO systems, we also handle smoke alarm installation at £180/point and replacement programmes for end-of-life alarms.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between Grade A and Grade D?
Grade A — commercial systems with a control and indicating panel, monitored circuits and zoned detection. BS 5839-1 applies. Grade D — domestic-style systems where each detector contains its own battery backup and is mains-powered, suitable for HMOs and rented dwellings. BS 5839-6 applies.
How often does my system need testing?
BS 5839-1 (commercial): weekly call-point test by responsible person, six-monthly engineer test, annual full certification. BS 5839-6 (HMO/domestic): monthly user test, annual engineer certification.
Do you fix defective alarms on the visit?
Most domestic Grade D detectors we replace on the spot at trade-rate. Specialist commercial detectors (aspirating, beam, addressable) are typically next-day.
